In Search of the Amazon Kingfisher

A group of us went to Laredo this week in search of the Amazon Kingfisher that had been seen there for a week or so along the Rio Grande.  Unfortunately we arrived the first day that it was not seen!  And, it has not been seen since.  Hopefully it weathered the storm that had come through and is just hiding up the river.

Several of our group got a lifer there.  Mine was the White-collared Seedeater--a female.

Other birds seen and enjoyed were the Green Kingfisher, the Black Phoebe, and the Ringed Kingfisher,

Re: In Search of the Amazon Kingfisher

You were too far south, Flo.  I trapped the Amazon Kingfisher in a mist net and brought it back to Tennessee and released it unharmed so we can have our first record of one here.

Sorry, Thornius, Texas already got the first record for the US!  Unfortunately, the last report was that it was acting lethargic.  Hopefully it did find another creek nearby.
