Lifer: Black-throated Gray Warbler

My wife and I found this bird while birding around San Marcos, Texas this last weekend. We were very surprised to find it and at first had no idea what it was.

Once reported on eBird, I was contacted by a local eBird reviewer several times about field marks, habitat, what other birds were in the area, behavior etc. On the strength of that, he and several other birders went to attempt to re-locate the bird on Sunday. They were successful - it was right in the same area we originally saw it.

One of those local birders took the pictures at the following Flickr link.

Very unusual sighting for Texas. We are tickled to death to have had the chance to see it. A good start to our  birding year.

Great bird!  I was excited to get the Black and White Warbler day before yesterday, but you've got me beat for sure!  Too bad you didn't get the shot yourself.

I find it interesting that you can still find a warbler in the same location the next day let alone the next week.  Pretty cool.
